Bullawarring walking track to Kingfisher Pool.

Are you up for a challenge? Love the outdoors? Love an adventure? Love looking after your health and wellbeing?

Then the amazing Bullawarring Walking Track is just for you! This will get your heart pumping, connect your soul to nature and is a refreshing break from your busy daily lifestyle.

This is a hidden gem in the Sutherland Shire. This track is located in the Heathcote National Park, the home to many beautiful and scenic bushwalking trails. It ticks all the boxes for an adventurous hike. This trail is rough, has many rocky paths and has plenty of hills. It is unlike the tracks in the Royal National Park that are well groomed, this one one is defiantly a challenge.

Thanks to my Fitbit I know that I achieved the following on this hike & you will too;

  • 750 calories burnt.
  • 6.3km distance.
  • 2 hours and 24 minutes return.
  • 10,217 steps.
  • Heart rate average beats per minute – 104. (Maximum heart rate 170).
  • 105 active minutes.
  • 25’49’’ average pace.

On this track, you will hear the birds chirping, observe the beautiful plants and animals, and head past the Kingfisher Pool Camping ground. In summer, this natural pool is great for a swim.

There were so many elements to this bushwalk which made it exciting and pleasurable. These included the:

  • Clear pathways and stairs.

  • Signage: there were arrows to help hikers know the way.

  • Animals: Yellow tailed Black Cockatoo, one of the largest species of parrot! Eastern blue-tongues lizard.
  • Plants: Gymea lillies, tea trees, waxflowers, old man banksia, and scribbly gum.

  • Some parts of the track are rough because of the rocks.
  • Steep hill sections.
  • Some obstacles.
  • NSW National Parks and Wildlife Services classify this track as Grade 4. This means that bushwalking experience is recommended.
  • No pets along the track.

We are fortunate to have scenic and beautiful trails to walk and hike on. It is crucial that we keep this track preserved for the future generations to explore and to protect the environment.

The track is operated by the Royal National Park Visitor Centre. Heathcote National Park has management strategies in place to protect and conserve the values of the park. They include:

  • Planning for the future
  • Preserving biodiversity: directional signage is positioned and maintained around the park.
  • Managing weeds, pest animals and other threats.

The National Park also has Bush Care. This is environmental volunteer work and occurs in public land – bushland, wetlands and around waterways managed by local councils or NSW agencies.

They perform many activities including:

  • Bush regeneration, weed removal and habitat restoration
  • Tree planting
  • Monitoring and surveying of native wildlife
  • Water quality monitoring
  • Community education
  • Growing native plants at community nurseries

You can also be involved in bush care if you are up for learning new skills, meeting new people, getting to know the neighbours, giving back to the community and being active outdoors. Just visit their website > http://www.bushcare.org.au/index.php/about/

I am sure I have convinced you to take this beautiful hike in the Sutherland Shire! Though, before you go, make sure you read Bushwalk Safety. https://www.nationalparks.nsw.gov.au/safety/bushwalking-safety

Watch this YouTube video to see just how stunning it really is.
